Landscape Project

Questions about the site:
1. I am trying to understand how the history of the UW campus interacts with the college environment. There is a railroad track that runs through campus and railroad crossing signs and lights that can never be used. I am normally running to my class without giving much thought to the actual campus but I wanted to center my project on the railroad tracks. I mostly want to understand why there are tracks running through campus.
2. I see myself sitting on the bench on the side of the tracks. I will be working to blend or interact the environment as if I was waiting for a train. I imagine it would be like a tableau using the environment around me. I would also like to bring in signs to mimic a train station and have luggage or other props that someone would carry if they were traveling by train.

project

Here are a couple of sketches of my ideas. I initially thought that I would be sitting waiting for a train but now I want to move slowly down the platform and freeze in a mini tableau along the way.

Here is my list of things I need:

Possible things to carry:
1. suitcase, briefcase etc.
2. umbrella
3.newspaper
4. book
5. journal

Possible signs:
Train times
exit signs

I need to find an umbrella and a briefcase. I also need a stencil for the signs. I want to write them out in old English.

project

I found my location. I would really like to make it look like I am waiting for a train. I think it would be cool.
